Gardit A/S is a Danish company specializing in surface protection of steel and concrete structures. The company is situated in Denmark but mobile teams are working worldwide and perform different tasks in many countries.

Gardit A/S has specialised in surface protection and corrosion control. Gardit is a rephrasing of the words:
”Guard It” – protect it – and that is exactly what we aim to do.

Surface protection of ships requires great flexibility and mobility. The task is often performed within a short fixed deadline, which makes high demands on equipment, planning and not least on quality control.

Gardit A/S is a reliable cooperation partner capable of meeting even very specific requirements.
We offer great flexibility when it comes to both crew and equipment. We take pride in having an up-to-date equipment park and well-trained staff to ensure that the job is performed on time and at a high quality level.

Gardit A/S has been performing surface protection for many years at Fredericia Shipyard through our local maritime division that has a great capacity of state-of-the-art equipment. Our close cooperation with the shipyard (now Fayard A/S) will continue in Lindø Industrial Park.

High-tech and environmental
Gardit A/S provides hydro blasting of paint and corrosion at ultra high pressure, also known as UHP. During the UHP blasting process, water is pumped at high pressure of up to 3,000 bar through a nozzle to form a concentrated water jet. Our robots use several
rotating nozzles resulting in a highly efficient blasting process. The water reaches a speed of up to several thousand kilometres an hour and, during the blasting process, the impact results in a 20-30°C heating of the steel which means that the surface dries before flash rust is formed. This blasting method is an effective way to prevent impurities and particularly to reduce the amount of salt on steel surfaces to a level far below the level required in current coating standards.

The hydro blasting is made by a robot from a closed blasting device mounted on a vehicle with a hydraulic telescopic arm. Two hoses are attached to the blasting device. One is attached to the UHP pump that supplies the water at high pressure to the nozzles. The other hose is attached to the vacuum filter system that sucks back the water together with the cleaned-off material. In connection with the return suction, the debris are separated before the water is discharged. This process hardly emits any dust to the surroundings which means that other activities on and around the ship may take place simultaneously with the blasting.

The noise level has been significantly reduced as the robot-controlled blasting takes place in a fully enclosed system. Therefore, this blasting process has very little impact on the environment and on health and working conditions.

Types of robots
Several types of robotic systems are used. One type is particularly designed for hydro blasting of ship´s bottoms and is manoeuvrable in the narrow space under the ship, whereas another is operable at the hull side and can reach up 30 meters from the bottom of the dock. For surfaces that are hard to access, hand-held guns are used. The working speed depends on
the nozzles, pressure, thickness of coating and workmanship.

When the ship has been cleaned, a new coat of paint is applied according to standards and the ship’s specifications.

The Benefits of UHP Blasting
Efficient removal of old coatings
Work on the ship during the blasting process
Dries before flash rust is formed
Less impurities
Reduced salt
No sand dust
Lower environmental impact
Can be used almost anywhere
Ideal for maintenance work
